Suryamukhi saree

Description

Bavan Buti saree are woven using silk and cotton as the basic materials, with the motifs added to the body using additional weft, and are named for the fifty-two motifs, or Bavan Buti, running through its main body. The Nalanda district of Bihar, which has been a significant Buddhist centre since the fifth century, is where the sarees are made. Many of the motifs seen in Bavan Buti sarees, which feature Buddhist iconographies like peepal, the bull, the lotus, the stupa, the deer and the elephant, are clear indications of this history. Red, yellow, and the parrot green are the most typical colors utilized in the sarees. In order to weave patterns directly into the fabric for the Bavan Buti sarees, the shuttle is used instead of a needle and extra weft is used in place of embroidery thread like Phulakari or Jamdhani embroidery.

This Suryamukhi Saree is woven with Ghicha silk on the warp and mulberry silk on the weft. As mentioned above Buddhist motifs are on the body and the pallu.

• Use some starch for tight and firmness
• Line dry or dip dry in shade
• Do not squeeze or wring
• Store in clean and dry place away from excessive light and moisture
